Ruth Laskey is an American artist esteemed for her minimalist weavings, grid paintings, and etchings. After initially focusing on painting and drawing, she has increasingly turned to developing her own paints and weaving her own canvases.
Combining painting and weaving, Laskey weaves abstract and geometric forms into her own canvases. She begins by painstakingly dyeing individual threads according to a predetermined plan, then uses a floor loom to weave these threads into canvases. The result is basic geometric forms and minimalist tessellations in a limited color palette, set within a white ground. The artist is represented by Ratio 3 in San Francisco.
